Green Majority Radio – July 12, 2013 – Godzilla Eat Your Heart Out

Operation TomodachiSHRED! is a new show on Discovery that features unimaginable destruction… and those that clean up after it. This week we speak to SHRED!’s producer, Robin Bicknell about recycling and waste management… on the largest possible scale as episode two (aired this past Monday) deals with shredding and recycling an area twice the size of Manhattan… as in everything… on the site of a major tsunami in Japan, and the 25 years its going to clean up. Bad news if you’ve been listening to our show! The SHRED! Teaser trailer at the bottom of the page.

In the second half, we speak to a fan of the show, turned Arctic Superhero. Chris Gismondi will be joining Students On Ice this year on their annual trip with 85 students as well as a team of scientists to view first hand the effects of climate change… while there’s still anything to see.

To wrap up the show, Kevin and I digest some more news as well as rant on a bit more, I thought I got it all out of my system last week but it would appear I’m on a bent about this recently.

You also heard me talk about our next round of special announcements! We will be ready to start selling Green Majority t-shirts (made of recycled plastic bottles no less) and a whole whack of other cool announcements as well as YOU WILL NOW BE ABLE TO HELP SUPPORT AND GROW THE SHOW! We will start offering Green Majority memberships along with our game plan for world domination (AKA a whole suite of new articles, video podcasting, first hand reporting, expanded interviews, more frequent shows etc…) that go along with us having the funding to do so. Stay tuned for that, we will have a new page for the shirts and memberships up and running by Monday!

This Weeks Music! Brought to you by DJ Amber Waves at Open til’ Midnight:

Newmarket born, now Vancouver based Hannah Georgas is what some might call Canada’s electrorock answer to Kate Nash.  With her deceptively airy vocals that strike to the core and introspective  metaphors, Georgas has been garnering acclaim since the release of her 2008 debut EP (a release that led to her nabbing CBC Radio 3’s 2009 Bucky Award for Best New Artist).

Since then, she’s scored a Juno nod, been longlisted for the Polaris Prize and found time to write a little ditty for Walmart  commercials.  Really.

My favourites of late:  “Somebody”, “Chit Chat” and fellow staffer/musican 2020k’s remix of   “Enemies” (free download, anyone?).

Party on,

Our door is always open! E-mail us… We love hearing from you.
