Brad Zarnett is the founder of the Toronto Sustainability Speaker Series which hosts discussions with business leaders and thinkers about how to make the shift towards a better world by engaging with the very people who are so often demonized for being the problem, big business. Brad joins us today to talk about the case for ‘capitalism 2.0’, what the problems are and how we can begin to address them by working with the companies often seen as the problem, rather than working against them. Many topics are brought up that are deserving of their own full discussions including the concept of ‘social license to operate’, what is really sustainable, and what the biggest roadblocks are to making these changes happen. TSSS hosts anywhere between 4-8 events a year, and you can get on the mailing list as well as learn more here.
In the second half, we listen to an interview with Julia ‘Butterfly’ Hill, the american activist that was made world famous in the late 90’s by spending 738 days living at the top of a 1500 year old California redwood. I talk to Julia about the concept of activism as patriotism, spirituality and the earth and whether or not she considers her opponents her ‘enemies’. It was a great interview, which we had to cut short for the radio unfortunately, so I will be posting a full version tomorrow so stay tuned!
